Jobs
- Tips for finding employment
It's very difficult to find a job nowadays -
especially if you are young and don't have much experience.
If you are looking for employment in Oman, whether in Muscat or
elsewhere in the Sultanate, you should
check all local newspapers, every day if possible. Also get a
copy of
the free publication "The Week" as jobs are often advertised
there as well. Don't only check the classifieds columns, because many times jobs are advertised elsewhere in the
newspaper. The internet can also be a useful source of
information. Irrespective of whether you are looking for a job
in Oman, other Gulf States or elsewhere, use the internet to search for opportunities. For
example, the following sites may be helpful:
There are 3 specific areas where there will
be a growing number of employment opportunities for young Omanis,
both now and in the future:
-
The Hospitality Industry
-
Aviation
-
E-Commerce
There are many grand hotel projects already
underway or planned for Oman. Hotels need a lot of staff,
working in many different areas, such as Public Relations,
Accounting, Chefs, Recreation - just to name a few.
Aviation in the Middle East region is growing rapidly - much
faster than the rest of the world. The industry employs a lot of
people in different areas: Airlines such as Oman Air and Gulf
Air need Pilots, Engineers, Cabin Crew, Dispatchers and more.
Airports need a lot of staff to operate effectively, and work on
the new Seeb International Airport expansion will be commencing
soon, so companies such as Oman Aviation Services will be
recruiting new people. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation
will need more Air Traffic Services personnel too, especially
Air Traffic Controllers, to cope with the growing amount of air
traffic. E-Commerce, or business via the
Internet, is going to continue to grow and grow. As it does,
more and more companies in Oman will need Information Technology
(IT) people to help run their businesses and their web sites.
If one of these areas sounds interesting to you, use the Google
Search box below to search for more information about a specific
career. If possible, do some training courses that
will help you to qualify for the job you want.
It's also worth considering job options where
you can work from home. There are many companies offering
employment on a "work from home" basis, usually via
the Internet, as they need people to
help proof-read documents, do translations and so on. One interesting site
is
www.WHAM.com
which is especially for work-at-home mothers. The advantage of work-from-home employment is that it doesn't matter where you live,
you don't need a car, and you can work when it suits you.
If you have some spare time on your hands, why not earn some
money on the Internet? See our
Earning Money Online section for more information.
Use this Google search form to help you search for information
on jobs & employment. For example, you could search for "Jobs in
Muscat" or "Oman jobs" etc:

Send your CV to the Recruitment Manager at
any company you would be interested in working for, even if they
haven't advertised for new staff. You might just be lucky and it
only costs you a few baisa for the postage. (The Recruitment
Manager is sometimes called the Human Resources Manager.)
Make sure you get a certificate from every
course you have attended. Certificates make a good impression on
prospective employers and they help show that you are keen to
learn.
Whatever your chosen career may be, we wish you success in your endeavours.
